But within its depths lurks a shadow, a dangerous lure that promises glory at the cost of souls. On January 15th, 1919, Boston witnessed a disaster unlike any other. A massive tank filled with that thick sweet nectar burst open in the city's North End, unleashing a wave of sticky sweetness that swept through the streets like a tsunami. The flood, standing at least 25 feet in some areas, was horrifying. Homes and businesses crumbled under the weight of the treacherous goo.
The aftermath was grim. Twenty-one people lost their lives, and many more suffered injuries. The flood also caused extensive damage to property, leaving a trail of molasses carnage in its wake.
